The Green Colibris Way

Our values

Social values

To create a high valued chain of production and supply of natural raw materials, wellbeing of all persons associated to its production is major milestone of our social values.

Considering wellbeing as a permanent pursuit, we have an individual  and a community scale approach. It demands permanently to consider multicultural factors that defines the sense of wellbeing.

Our bet is that the closest we build social benefits to the concrete needs of members associated to a high value chain the highest impact will have the global chain.

Respecting national and international laws related to work rights, non discrimination, welfare and minimum income is not a target but a departure point.

We take a conscious approach to the inequities that may exist in the rural world and which can be linked to gender, belonging to an ethnic group, to distance from the media and technological tools, violence and poverty.

We establish strategies that aim to strengthen social links through creation of channels which question and allow each actor to express himself freely.

Environmental values

We make part of emerging global awareness about the extreme urgence of a change of paradigms related to « success » concept and indicators that redefine it beyond profit.

This means real intervention and impact, with long lasting results.

Green Colibris identified a series of internal indicators that allow each project to establish it’s own and unique program of « renforcement » of environmental empowerment .

Our environmental policy starts from the permanent prior observation of the environment and the surroundings of the production areas, the issues, the stressors and the possible means at our disposal so that in an organic production process we can generate positive side effects.
This includes agroforestry, association of crops, biological control,  rationalization of water use and, in the broad sense, the conservation of areas for regeneration, among the instruments commonly found in our value chains.
In many aspects we push the value chains we work with, beyond the obligations related to environmental certifications, but also have the ambition to highlight those where there is important work in favor of the environment although there is no certifications associated.

Economic values

Our participation in the creation and support of agricultural sectors with high added value requires a long-term vision and the permanent search for “non-dependence” on a single product or market.

We seek the optimal use of all the resources available in the places of production and work so that each sector can develop in an autonomous and sustainable manner.

Today we are the link that connects small and medium-scale productions that need stable partnerships to maintain and diversify their production with the very demanding needs of industrial sectors calling on biological resources in research, development and innovation processes.

We connect these two worlds to meet needs and allow us to generate even more opportunities at each end of the value chain.

Economic sustainability according to our values goes through signed agreements, support for the necessary training and certification costs related to production and good practices.

And more than all transparency of all parts for the establishment of prices that allow all actors in the chain to carry out their activity and develop serenely.

The way we do the things we do

Our expertise

Rentability will be measured by the number of persons positively impacted and the ecosystemic associated services generated

Certifications

Our chains are identified by the “Green Colibris” label. If the project involving it requires international certification of organic farming, fair trade or compliance with the Nagoya protocol, we adapt the sectors to achieve these certifications

Experiencie on the following certifications

We support projects in the transition and procedure assessment phase towards certifications linked to various internationally recognized standards. These are certifications or processes that are linked to the mode of production (impact on health and the environment), social conditions and social and environmental responsibility (fair trade) or legality of access to biological resources in compliance with national and international laws and provisions (Nagoya Protocol)

Organic Agriculture

  • The different organic farming standards in force in different parts of the world all aim at transforming agricultural production methods towards practices that are more favorable for man, the environment and nature
  • We make an initial diagnosis of the needs in terms of product quality and certification on the part of the requesting market and support the various actors involved in the projects to size their production method to meet these needs.
  • If we support your project from the start, the strategic choices related to this will take into account the imperatives of organic certification and under which benchmark your project requires registration

Fair Trade / Commerce équitable

  • Fair trade was created as an alternative way of doing trade. It is based on partnership, which means that the interests of farmers and workers are just as important as other commercial considerations. It also represents a solution to poverty and a model for development.
  • Fair trade is an arrangement designed to help producers in growing countries achieve sustainable and equitable trade relationships
  • The movement seeks to promote greater equity in international trading partnerships through dialogue, transparency, and respect. It promotes sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers in developing countries

COP10/MOP5 Aichi-Nagoya

  • The Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity is an international agreement created by the UN that equitably shares the benefits of genetically modified organisms and is one of two protocols that allow ambitious biodiversity goals to be efficiently achieved.
  • The Nagoya Protocol is an international agreement that acts as a legally binding instrument to set regulations on access and benefit sharing (ABS) in biological diversity. The protocol entered into force in October 2014, aiming to create an equitable distribution of the benefits of utilising genetic resources.
